Choosing the right infrared heating for your church

Episode 4 of SunSwitch Tuesday sees Bruce Miller and Steve Hull explain why its so important to choose the right infrared heating technology for your church environment.

Video transcript:

Hello! It’s Bruce & Steve from SunSwitch again and welcome to SunSwitch Tuesday Episode 4!

We at SunSwitch are very passionate about what we do and how we provide unbiased expert advice on how you can significantly reduce your energy costs and how we can support you on your carbon reduction journey.

The Church of England have set an ambitious target of achieving net carbon zero by 2030, and SunSwitch are committed to this cause and perfectly positioned to help them on this exciting journey. Churches need to maintain and are looking to build-up their congregation attendance numbers, and one way is to ensure you are keeping your regular parishioners comfortable and warm in the colder Winter months.

And, of course, it is not just the Church of England we can help, it’s also the Church of Scotland, Church in Wales and also not to forget the Church of Ireland.

‘A church’s heating system affects its fabric, its contents, its congregation and its mission. Heating makes up the vast majority (over 70%) of its energy use and carbon footprint.’ But in order to make a positive impact in your Church, it’s about choosing the right technology for a church environment. We know that many church heating systems are old and inefficient and need replacing, and many churches may require an interim or emergency heating solution, where your current heating system has either broken down or is in the process of being replaced.

So, what do we mean by choosing the right technology for a church environment? Well, Churches are inherently difficult-to-heat spaces, and this is due to their very high ceilings, no insulation in the walls and draughty windows and the fact they’re currently equipped with convection heating systems, and this means that any warm air produced will rise and simply dissipate almost as fast as it is produced leaving your congregation feeling cold and your local bat inhabitants warm.

So, to slash your carbon emissions and reduce your energy costs, you need to choose the best suited heating technology that will efficiently, effectively and quickly warm the congregation when and where they’re gathered, rather than paying to heat an entire space!

SunSwitch Short-Wave Infrared heating technology is perfectly suited for church environments with the ability to save churches up to 70% on their energy running costs. Although Short-Wave Infrared is the most efficient infrared technology within a church space, some churches may be attracted towards the long-wave or far Infrared Heaters because they do not emit any light and we will share with you next week in Episode 5, the significant difference in running costs between Short-Wave and Long-Wave Far heaters and why not all Infrared Heaters are the same!

Another very important benefit of using Infrared Heating within a church environment, is the health and wellbeing element, and the fact that they generate zero air movement, unlike like the convectional warm-air heating systems which create an unhealthy swirl of dust within the church, that exacerbates allergies and the spreading of unwanted colds and viruses!

So, SunSwitch can help you in many ways – if you are watching this and are a parish church – then please do get in touch to discuss how SunSwitch can be of assistance on your road to net carbon zero and also in saving on energy costs.

That’s it for today, please join us next Tuesday.
