Best heater to help you improve your EPC rating and meet MEES requirements

EPC B rating image

The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) require that from 1 April 2023, it will be an offence to continue to let or rent out a commercial property if it does not have an EPC rating of at least E. In 2027 a C rating will be required and then a B rating in 2030.

Infrared heating is a perfect choice for improving your EPC rating as almost 100% of energy used is turned into heat and can save you up to 70% on your heating bills.

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) requirements and Commercial EPC compliance made easy with SunSwitch Infrared Heating!

2018 saw the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) come into force, bringing about the requirement that no new commercial tenancy be created without the property having an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E.

From the 1 April 2023, this requirement will tighten so that all tenanted commercial properties will have to achieve at least an E rating on their EPC, regardless of whether the tenancy is new. Failure to comply will be an offence which will carry a hefty financial
penalty based on the rateable value of the property and details of the breach may also be made publicly available.

Following this, the Government’s MEES target is that by 2030, commercial properties, unless exempt, must have a an EPC B rating. The proposal is to have a two-phased approach so that commercial properties must have an EPC rating of C or higher by 1 April 2027, and B or better by 2030:

Phase One: EPC C (2025-2027)

  • By 1 April 2025: A valid EPC must be presented by landlords of non-domestic rented buildings within the scope of MEES

  • By 1 April 2027: Improvements to the buildings to achieve EPC C or greater must be completed

Phase Two: EPC B (2028 – 2030)

  • By 1 April 2028: A valid EPC must be presented by landlords of non-domestic rented buildings within the scope of MEES

  • By 1 April 2030: Improvements to the buildings to achieve EPC B or greater must be completed

Replacing your existing gas warehouse heating system with an efficient and effective SunSwitch heating solution will help boost your EPC rating.

As a result of the MEES requirements, companies are working to cut their net emissions of greenhouse gases and v3iew the heating of buildings as a priority area for where beneficial changes can be made. Gas-based systems are becoming less popular as a result of their high carbon emissions and so many businesses are switching to electric heating systems to reduce their emissions.

Electric infrared heating is a perfect choice to improve your EPC rating as it has one of the highest efficiency rates of all available alternatives. Our specialist Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) technology is 93.5% efficient at converting your energy into effective heating and warmth when and where you need it, saving you up to 70% on your electricity bills compared to traditional air heating systems.

How does Infrared Heating work?

SunSwitch warehouse infrared heaters produce instant shortwave infrared warmth, just like the sun. This is the most eco-friendly man-made source of heat because it does not heat the air but creates an instant pool of warmth. This directly warms people and objects, eliminating the challenges of condensation and stratification—the warmth will not rise to the ceiling or drift away with air movement, for example when roller shutter doors are opened. This helps to keep your workers warm and happy, regardless of the working environment and weather, without wasting money, unlike with conventional heating systems that warm the air which can then drift away!

In the right environment, there is no other heating technology which can deliver instantaneous heat in an effective manner, whilst also significantly reducing your heating bills and carbon footprint!
